My musical journey began at the age of 4 when I joined a music group in Theatre Clwyd, Mold. After having 5 years of music lessons there, which gave me a good foundation in music theory, I decided to learn the piano, which then became my key instrument. Alongside the piano I also took lessons on the harp and violin. By the age of 15 I had already won various composition and solo piano competitions in Denbighshire and in local Eisteddfods. Once I left school and had achieved grade 8 piano, I decided to take my music studies to the next level. I studied at the University of Wales, Bangor, which enhanced my musical knowledge vastly and graduated in the summer of 2008 with an honours degree. Whilst at University I had the opportunity to learn new instruments, saxophone and bass guitar to name a few, and also to join various ensembles, for example a piano trio in which I performed regularly at Bangor. I have also played bass and sax in various bands and enjoy the experience of playing rock and pop just as much as classical music. I’ve been teaching music for three years now and thoroughly enjoy it. I believe every child should be given the opportunity to experience the joys of music whether it is Rock and Roll or Classical.
